cat vinton was born in december 1974 and grew up in a quiet village in the northamptonshire countryside.
cat often found herself with imagination and curiosity as her companions when she was a school girl. from an early age she treasured imagery and struggled with words. 'what do you hang on the walls of your mind' eve arnold, a photographer cat hugely admires.
this took cat to chelsea art school at the age of 16, where she embraced everything london had to offer.
after successfully graduating from camberwell school of art and design in july '97, cat left the uk to work in the people's democratic republic of lao.
a place and an experience that fuelled her curiosity to see, capture and share the diversity of the world.
during her 2 years in lao, she worked as a freelance photographer for the united nations, unicef and redd barna (norwegian save the children)
since then she has lived and worked as a photographer, both in london and los angeles.
based in London, she shoots all over the world, for personal projects that she exhibits and commercially for clients such as conde nast traveller, hotshoe, digit, sunday times style magazine, irish times, evening standard, daily mail, hodder & stroughton, british journal of photographers, all access magazine. etc.
she has exhibited in london, paris and lao, in both solo and group shows.
she has recently been awarded the accolade of international travel photographer of the year. her prize will take her to the tibetan settlement, dharamsala in northern india, to spend time with his holiness, the dalai lama.
cat vinton is in search of the last truly nomadic people of the world, as their survival is questionable. her commitment to capture the beauty of these wild lands of undisturbed beauty and remote communities of free-spirited people, has and will take her to some of the most isolated and challenging locations in the world.
cat has a strong will, a great sense of adventure, a willingness to take risks and a love of people...
